Similarities and Differences Between the Lebanese and Turkish Cultures

Language is intrinsic to the expression of culture. As a means of communicating values, beliefs and customs, it has an important social function and fosters feelings of group identity and solidarity. It is the means by which culture and its traditions and shared values may be conveyed and preserved.

The Lebanese flag is that on the left and the Turkish is on the right

Lebanon is known for its rich gastronomy. When someone goes to a Lebanese restaurant, they start by serving the mezza which contains several plates such as hummus tabbouleh and other plates. Then, they serve a plate of barbeque which has meet, chicken and kafta. Finally, they serve several delicious deserts.

Turkey is known for its Turkish shawarma which all tourists don’t leave the country before tasting it.

Both countries enjoy dancing, for both countries are known for their dabke, but its steps are different in each country. The Lebanese dabke is illustrated in the video below and I am part of it.

This is an image of the Turkish Dabke:

The weather in both countries is similar which is cold in the winter and hot in the summer, but in Lebanon so many tourists visit it in all seasons for in summer tourist come to swim in the beach and in winter they come to ski in the mountains.

1:Travelled to Turkey 2:Would Like to Travel to Turkey 3:Don't Like to Travel to Turkey

These are statistics gotten by me after asking people on AUB campus about whether they have went or would like to travel to Turkey as tourists one day.
I was inspired by the 90% of people who 50% of have already gone to turkey and the other 40% who would like to visit Turkey at least once in their lives.

No matter how cultures differ through their language, customs and race they should always integrate to share a happy living.

Comparing Lebanon and Italy      Lebanon is the country where I have lived my whole life. It is located at the crossroads between the Arab world and the Mediterranean Basin, and as such it shares many similarities with other Mediterranean countries, like Spain, Greece and Italy . This is due to a common History those countries share, and consequently close cultures.      To start off, it would be interesting to give some basic information: according to recent statistics, Lebanon is 30 times smaller than Italy, and its population is currently 10 times less. But if we dwelve deeper into their respective cultures, we would be likely to find many similarities.   1- Language:    The Lebanese are known for being very efficient at learning languages. The average Lebanese can speak up to 3 languages: Arabic, French and English. Some are also fluent in Spanish, Italian, or German. Italians mostly speak Italian (97%), and a gre...
Comparing Turkey to Lebanon Intercultural communication has a very wide presence globally. Having lived in Dubai all my life, I am well aware of the fact that no matter how close two countries are from each other, and how similar the languages spoken are, the cultural differences have a major impact on communication and the standards of the lives of those that are traveling and experiencing various cultures. Although I have lived in Dubai for 18 years, I have decided to base this blogpost on a country that I have only visited once, in order to expand my knowledge and conduct research as to explore the differences and the many similarities that exist between this country and Lebanon. Turkey is a destination that thousands of Lebanese people visit a year due to the short flight and time distance. Also, it is fairly inexpensive, making the demand for tourism there much higher. I have always wondered what the differences between Turkey and Lebanon are as they h...

Lebanon Vs. Greece

Exposing yourself to a new culture is always an enriching experience. Foreign experiences increase both cognitive flexibility and interactiveness of thought. it will help us building the ability to make deep connections and having the urge to discover and make new experiences. One of the countries i have visited was Greece, in 2018.  Shockingly, Greece and Lebanon were similar in a lot of aspects. One thing that is common and not refutable that they both are located on the Mediterranean sea but the similarity does not stop here. First thing is the dance, here in Lebanon our traditional dance, other than bellydancing, is the Dabkeh (First image). We do it at events, at weddings, at restaurants, basically anytime, you'll see us in a circle, holding hands, doing our 1-2 step whih is basically the same as that one of greece  "Zorba". (second image)                 second thing is Food. Other than the...
