intercultural communication between Lebanon and Ukraine

Lebanese, Ukrainian Culture: Facts, Customs & Traditions  
Lebanon:
Location: The Middle East, bordering the Mediterranean Sea, between Palestine and Syria
Capital: Beirut
Population: 6,093,798 (2018 est.)

Ukrainian:
 Location: Eastern Europe, bordering the Black Sea, between Poland, Romania, and Moldova in the west and Russia in the east
Capital: Kyiv (Kiev)
Population: 42,403,027 (2017 est.) 


We are going to discuss the difference between 5 aspects of those cultures: 

 Languages: 
-The official language is Arabic, and it is used by almost 93% of the population. 
Other dialects of the language are spoken too, like English and French.  
In addition, other languages are used by Lebanese like Armenian or Greek. 
-While in Ukraine the official language of the country is it is a language of the East Slavic subgroup of the Slavic languages.  The language shares some vocabulary with the languages of the neighboring Slavic nations, most notably with Belarusian, Polish, Russian and Slovak. 


 Religion: 
-Lebanon is a religious mish-mash and this has ultimately been the cause behind social tensions and the long, drawn-out civil. The government officially recognizes 18 religious sects of Christianity, Islam, and Judaism
-while in Ukraine approximately 40% of the population in Ukraine describe themselves as an atheist. Of those that do adhere to some form of religion, 37% belong to one of the three major orthodox denominations present in the country. There are also a significant and growing number of Jews, Protestants, and Muslims.

 The Cuisine: 
-The Lebanese cuisine is one of the very well-known cuisines.
Important parts of the Lebanese meals are hummus, tabbouleh, kibbeh, fattoush, falafel, mankousha, Warak Enab and others.  
And each region in Lebanon has its own touch of Lebanese cuisine. 
The national beverage is arak, wine….
meals are finished with Arabic coffee and fresh fruit, though sometimes a selection of traditional sweets will be offered as well.
-While the Ukrainian cuisine is different from Lebanese cuisine.  Food is an important part to the Ukrainian culture such as kutia,  fishcheese, and a variety of sausages, Typically bread is a core part of every meal, they will drink tea (chai), wine, or coffee afterward with a simple dessert, such as a fruit pastry.

Holidays and celebrations: 
-Lebanese people basically celebrate both Christian and Muslim holidays like Christmas, Easter, Eid al Fitr, Eid al Adha.  
November 22 is considered as Lebanese independent day

-while in Ukraine there are lots of celebrations in Ukraine that symbolize beauty, heartfulness, and joy of living. Saint Valentine’s Day, Maslenitsa, the holiday of winter seeing off, International Women’s Day, Easter with beautifully colored eggs, Victory Day, Holy Trinity, Constitution Day and many other holidays 

customs:
-warm greetings and smiles when people meet.
gifts are often given when someone is invited for dinner, provides a favor, comes back from a trip
The Lebanese are proud of their tradition of hospitality. This is a culture where it is considered an honour to have a guest in your home.
- Ukrainians are a pretty traditional nation. It is still very important for most people to follow religious customs Otherwise social judgement might affect a person’s reputation, solcial status and self confidence. For example, it is almost unexceptable for the family not to baptise their child and taking religious marriages in the church are very common and are socially obligatory in rural areas.
