Lebanon and Turkey

As we all know every country has its own culture that makes it different and unique from every other country. I visited turkey many times and I was fascinated by their culture. That’s why I chose to talk about this country and illustrate its differences and similarities with my beautiful country, Lebanon

Turkey

Historical places

Turkey is known as the home of historic landmarks. You cannot visit this country without going to its famous historical places. Some of the places I  visited

The glorious Hagia Sophia: as a former church, mosque, and now museum, this place unit the two religions. We can see on its wall scenes from the bible and Islamic calligraphy art

The majestic Blue Mosque: it is one of the best historical places in turkey. Its is famous for its six minarets, only one of two mosques in turkey to be build in this style

The Topkapi Palace: The palace is
known as the home of Sultans

Galata Tower: This tower is the
pathway to an amazing panoramic view of the city of Istanbul, the capital of turkey

:Language
The official language is Turkish, is the first language spoken by 90% of the population. Minority languages include Kurdish, spoken by 6% of the population and Circassian spoken by more than 0.09%. Arabic is spoken by 1.2% of the Turkish speakers.  The language was influenced by Persian and Arabic after the ninth century, when Turks began moving into the middle east and converting to Islam

:Food
You can find a great variety of mouth watering dishes in Turkish cuisine, which is mostly the heritage of Ottoman cuisine. It is impossible to fit  Turkish cuisine into a short list

:But I will try to show you some of their best dishes

 Döner

Mantı
Bulgur Pilavı

Traditions
If a guest is invited to someone’s house, he must not enter wearing shoes. He is given slippers

During wedding, the bride writes the name of her single female friends on the soles of her wedding day shoes. At the end of the evening, the ladies check the soles to see whose name have worn away and whose name have not. If your name has worn away, you’re destined to marry soon, but if your name still appears, a wedding is not in your immediate future

As we can see there are so many things in common between Lebanon      and Turkey. However, these similarities reinforce the interaction between these two different cultures. In other words, it enhances their intercultural communication skills. To strengthen these skills, people should first accept, respect and embrace cultural differences and learn more about them in order to communicate with people from around the world

Comparing Lebanon and Italy      Lebanon is the country where I have lived my whole life. It is located at the crossroads between the Arab world and the Mediterranean Basin, and as such it shares many similarities with other Mediterranean countries, like Spain, Greece and Italy . This is due to a common History those countries share, and consequently close cultures.      To start off, it would be interesting to give some basic information: according to recent statistics, Lebanon is 30 times smaller than Italy, and its population is currently 10 times less. But if we dwelve deeper into their respective cultures, we would be likely to find many similarities.   1- Language:    The Lebanese are known for being very efficient at learning languages. The average Lebanese can speak up to 3 languages: Arabic, French and English. Some are also fluent in Spanish, Italian, or German. Italians mostly speak Italian (97%), and a gre...

Intercultural Communication: Lebanon VS the United States

Rim Karame Maryah Kulaylat April 18, 2018     Comparing         Lebanon and         the  United               States         We chose to compare Lebanon and the United states because we’ve been to both countries. It’s interesting to compare these two countries because the United States is one of the most advanced first world countries whereas Lebanon is still considered a third world country. Languages In the United States of America, the mother language is English and most people only speak this language since it’s the most dominant language in the world nowadays so it's not necessary for Americans to speak other languages. Which is interesting compared to Lebanon where there are three spoken languages: Arabic, English and French. That is because Lebanon is an Arab country therefore Arabic is the mother language spoken by all categor...
