Lebanese/Belgian Cultures

Lebanon:

The Lebanese culture is one of the most exciting cultures to look at. Lebanon has been for ages the place to be for many civilizations. These civilizations inhibited Lebanon, and left it full with ancient artifacts, and traces of its glorious past. From these civilizations I mention:

  • The Phoenicians
  • The Babylonians
  • The Persians
  • The Macedonians
  • The Romans
  • The Ottomans
one of the most important aspects of the Lebanese culture is its cuisine. Lebanon shares with its fellow Levant states patents for many delicious foods that are now globally known. Of these food we mention:
  •   Tabbouleh: tabbouleh is the number one salad in Lebanon. Although many may disagree on some ingredients, all share the love of this salad.

  •  Kebbeh Neyye: kebbeh neyye is literally minced raw meat. It may be scary at first, but a little courage will lead you to one of the best things you would ever taste.

  • Warak Enab: warak enab is grape (vine) leaves that are stuffed. The stuffing may be rice and meat, or a vegetarian one. Everybody loves this  appetizer.

Aother aspect is the traditional clothing and dance. Lebanon's traditional dance is a really special one with simple but eye-catching moves. This Dance is called the dabke

And that's how traditional clothing look like

Moreover, Lebanon has a special type of architectural style. Traditional Lebanese houses are pieces of art; they are built from roughly shaped natural stones, and topped with a distinctive dark red brick roofing.

Lebanon has an impressive terrain variety. You can go to the mountains, then chill at the beach in a matter of an hour or two. Here are some of the pictures i've taken:

these pictures show the reason why Lebanon is a primary tourist destination

Belgium:

Belgian culture is an equally interesting culture. Historic Belgium influenced several other European regions, and exported many aspects of its culture. Some of the historic inhabitants of Belgium are:

  • The Franks
  • The Romans
  • Several independent kingdoms
When it comes to Belgian cuisine, several items pop up and shine. Belgian chocolate is one of the finest across continents, Belgian beer has a very pleasant reputation, and fries are a national snack.

the main reason behind Belgians perfecting their beer is the historic roots of this beverage in the region. Belgians has been brewing beer for ages, so they mastered this art.
Belgium is known for creating Praline, a soft centered, hard crusted chocolate delicacy.

Belgians take their fries quite seriously. In fact, there are specifications for how the fires should look like, and how fresh they should be.

Moving on to traditional clothing and dance. One of the most famous Belgian Dances is the zwierig dansje. It goes like this:

And the traditional clothing looks like this:

Belgians have a unique style when it comes to Architecture. Their Houses are beautifully designed, with amazing colors. Here is a sample of a classic Belgian block

Belgium also has a variety of landscapes, from green meadows, to snow peaks, all the way to beaches.

Every culture is unique in its own way. Communication between cultures is extremely important, for no culture exists without sharing its strengths and learning from its neighbor's weaknesses

Comparing Lebanon and Italy      Lebanon is the country where I have lived my whole life. It is located at the crossroads between the Arab world and the Mediterranean Basin, and as such it shares many similarities with other Mediterranean countries, like Spain, Greece and Italy . This is due to a common History those countries share, and consequently close cultures.      To start off, it would be interesting to give some basic information: according to recent statistics, Lebanon is 30 times smaller than Italy, and its population is currently 10 times less. But if we dwelve deeper into their respective cultures, we would be likely to find many similarities.   1- Language:    The Lebanese are known for being very efficient at learning languages. The average Lebanese can speak up to 3 languages: Arabic, French and English. Some are also fluent in Spanish, Italian, or German. Italians mostly speak Italian (97%), and a gre...
Comparing Turkey to Lebanon Intercultural communication has a very wide presence globally. Having lived in Dubai all my life, I am well aware of the fact that no matter how close two countries are from each other, and how similar the languages spoken are, the cultural differences have a major impact on communication and the standards of the lives of those that are traveling and experiencing various cultures. Although I have lived in Dubai for 18 years, I have decided to base this blogpost on a country that I have only visited once, in order to expand my knowledge and conduct research as to explore the differences and the many similarities that exist between this country and Lebanon. Turkey is a destination that thousands of Lebanese people visit a year due to the short flight and time distance. Also, it is fairly inexpensive, making the demand for tourism there much higher. I have always wondered what the differences between Turkey and Lebanon are as they h...
